Poetry #253
(published November 17, 2005)
Animal Crackers
by Laurel Sparks
The child bites—
Camel without a hump;
Trunkless elephant,
Dog
With no tail.

Handicapped creatures
Emerge from hibernation,
Only to be amputated
In the first sunlight
Out of darkness.
