Poetry #522
(published January 20, 2011)
Soft Parade
by Jonathan Hayes
At Venice Beach's big bowl
Old school thrasher dude takes photos

While barely bigger than her skateboard
Little girl shreds cement

Then does a hand-plant

She falls on her butt
Smack-dab on the bowl's lip

And watches her skateboard slide to the bottom

The crowd relaxes and laughs and smiles safely

While oblivious to it all
She dives down

kneepads first
for her

skateboard

Jonathan Hayes's latest book is T(HERE).
