(published August 21, 2008)
House of Correction
(a Poor Mojo's Classic)
by Joe Boland
[As August 2008 marks the close of our seventh year of weekly publication, we shall spend this month enjoying "the blast from the past" with selections from Poor Mojo's Almanac(k): Year One. Please, enjoy! — Your Giant Squid, Editor-in-Chief, PMjA]

[originally published in issue #23]

We grew up down the road from prison,
my brother and I, and Prison stayed with us. He

got an iron lung: life sentence,
But time off
For good behavior. Me,

I just got Life, stepping on my own dick in perpetuity

Tripping over it to pick up
the nickel I give away
-next block-

to the past or future
convict cantoring,

"Change for food,
change for food,
-thank-you, Handsome-
change for food."
