23 Degrees Of Freedom Isn't Enough
by Alison Eastley
1.)

There are 23 degrees of freedom
available solely in the hand above the wrist.

2.)

There are 27 bones in the human hand.

3.)

The metacarpus, or palm, is composed of 5 long
metacarpal bones.

4.)

It was sometime after 7 when you phoned.

5.)

The music in the background was worse
than karaoke.

6.)

Your hand may have been damp
downing drinks.
Your palm had not grown hairs,
well, not that you said.

7.)

And I doubt you counted the bones.

8.)

23 degrees of freedom isn't enough.

9.)

There are other parts of the body to consider,
to insist

10.)

your visit to a strip-club
is a 'comprehensive study'

11.)

sounds like it must be time to stop listening
to your ideas

12.)

and attitudes,
the only word to define them

13.)

is kitsch.
