The Piece That Fell Off
by Daphna El-Roy

The piece that fell off
my Jade plant
in the water in the ketchup bottle
looked like a green bird
with two tiny heads between rubbery shoulders
or a flowering tail of a whale in water not blue but clear
so the tip of the whale is a tail with no whale underneath
brown and pokey at the point of detachment
