Poetry #304
(published November 16, 2006)
X-ray
by Sue Miller
I never went to school for it, so i can't be certain, but
all that black where i want to see
white suckerpunches me

and you sit there, calmly pointing,
your finger not even shaking as as you touch it
to the slick film that reveals

the whole of the problem, in less-than-
Gestalt telling, and you know it's you up there
inside out and frozen in evidence

and it's you up there,
frozen, i think, as i tuck the film back into its sleeve
and let the cat in, and shut the light.
