Poetry #17
(published Late in the Year, 2000)
tuesday, three p m
by Penelope Talbert

in bed
stream rising residue off my skin
from a self-induced orgasm
cigarette smoldering
a ringing phone wrapped
in freshly colored auburn

the smell of your skin
is the smell of my skin

i cupped the compact A's
of a spunky redhead
by the side of a mirage highway
when saturday became sunday
she's not a lesbian
but she still smiled
