Poetry #326
(published April 19, 2007)
Unhappy Holidays
by Larry Gaffney
Happy Thanksgiving? That's not what I say,
But I guess my opinion is quirky.
Sure, most of us think it's a pretty fine day,
All but the poor roasted turkey.

Merry Christmas? You won't convince me.
I abhor ecological crime.
A lovely tradition? How can it be,
To kill all those trees in their prime?

Easter, I think, should be Halloween's twin,
Its equal in terror and dread.
There's a creepy old mask (the Shroud of Turin),
And a zombie, back from the dead.
