For me, the gold standard of sketch comedy is Kids in the Hall. I wonder if SNL's reliance on vapid pop culture reference, stunt casting, teleprompters, developing obnoxious characters they can drive into the ground, fear of any topic truly controversial and the way SNL chews through cast members contributes much to its rampant sucking? Or maybe it's just the writing.
