Prosecutor Gary Thelander said accused child molester John Hawthorne, of Soquel, used Photoshop software to cut and paste digital photos of female students onto pornographic images he downloaded from the Internet.

Judge Lydia Villarreal increased Hawthorne's bail Tuesday to $2 million based on the new revelations, which were contained in a motion by Thelander.

Hawthorne is charged with 15 felony counts and three misdemeanor counts of child molestation, as well as 20 felony counts of possessing child pornography.

If convicted, he could be sentenced to prison for multiple life terms.

That annoyed Geraldine Beasley so much, Chief Tom Streicher said, that she shot and killed Francis when he approached her, "He asked her for a quarter," the chief said Tuesday.

Beasley, 62, of Walnut Hills, complained to someone else at the scene about the panhandling, Streicher said. Then, he said, when Francis asked her for money, she pulled out a gun and fired.

"That's apparently all there was to it," the chief said.

Beasley was charged with murder after police collected evidence at the scene and spoke to witnesses and Beasley, court documents said.

Moments later, a second shot hit Austin in the head.

A Noble police officer who had responded to a report of a snake in a tree apparently fired the deadly shot while trying to kill the snake on Friday, City Manager Bob Wade said.

"I was told that they tried several ways to get the snake down, but it was still hissing at them and firmly lodged," Wade said. "What I was told is that the owner of the home either suggested or agreed that they should go ahead and shoot the snake, and then everything happened from there."

Like its cousin the Ebola virus, Marburg is a contagious haemorrhagic fever that produces sudden massive internal bleeding and can kill within days. Death is painful but slightly less spectacular than Ebola - one journalist once described the sound of someone dying of Ebola as like a sheet being ripped. Marburg is quieter, but just as lethal. There is no vaccine, no cure and little effective treatment.

The last outbreak of the virus, which is transmitted through bodily fluids, was centred around the town of Uige in northern Angola in 2005, close to the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Now, the World Health Organisation says Marburg has been confirmed in the case of a 29-year-old man who died in a mining community in Uganda, again near the Congolese border. There have been several other suspected cases, and the Ministry of Health and WHO are closely monitoring the area.
