"I find that delightful!" Waters said from Provincetown, Mass. "I love the fact that anyone thinks my words will be carried on the wind and contaminate somebody's cookout."...
"My main thing is I'm against separatism, so I think I'm the perfect speaker for this," Waters said Thursday...,
"Anytime the town has to have guards at the door to protect the perverts, that's not something for Middletown," Kelly said. "I'm disgusted with it."
As a pervert, Waters said, he's comforted by Kelly's stance.
"This thing kind of got bigger than any of us realized," said Councilman Jason Faulkner. "The idea of the event could be a positive thing."
Skrobot, who owns the Country Corner gift shop on Main Street, agrees.
"We want this to be a yearly thing and we don't want this controversy to overshadow it," she said.
Heath, a father of four children ages 7 to 19, says he has nothing against Waters as an artist.
"He's the king of bad taste and he's got a right to be. I just don't feel this is the most appropriate lineup," he said. "This is my little town that I'm raising my kids in."...
"I'm not bringing my kids to hear John Waters," said Middletown resident Stefanie Jaye, a jazz musician who'll perform at the Unicity Festival. "But I am going to hear some of the musicians that I respect. I'm blessed to be a part of Middletown. Let's let this be an adult event."
