GOP intends to play to its strength: Gay bashing
I pray Obama's advisors have learned the lesson of the Don't Ask, Don't Tell fiasco.* The United States is sick in the head about genitals and our new president needs to have nothing to do with the politics thereof.
Maybe -- maybe -- it really is a new day and I shouldn't worry -- after all, Obama's landslide victory isn't Clinton's 1994 1992 dumb luck to gather 43 percent of the electorate against the split Bush-Perot vote of 57%.
But I do worry, I worry about hubris, about the temptation for Obama to use the bully pulpit to do the moral thing and endorse gay marriage -- or even mention it favorably -- and give the religious right the stick with which to beat him silly -- while forcing many African-Americans to choose between our black president and their moral and religous convictions.
Mr. President, we down here in the streets have this one -- please focus on the economy and leave body-part politics alone, kthanksbye.
* As well as Hillary's ham-fisted, arrogant approach to health-care reform.

When asked by Chris Wallace what "conservative solutions" the GOP would bring to their current minority-party status, [Rep. Mike Pence-R. Calif.] said social issues like "the sanctity of marriage" will remain the backbone of the Republican platform....
The Indiana representative cited the ballot measures against gay marriage that passed on Election Day as evidence of the continuing presence of conservative values.
"There were three state referendums on marriage ... all three carried. The vitality of the conservative movement around the country is very real," said Pence.
