California Rep., Alberto Gonzales caught in quid pro quo scandal with Israeli spy
The nutshell version is that Rep. Harman (D-CA) was caught on tape promising to help an Israeli spy by fighting against charges against two Israeli lobbyists. And then, later, when her actions came to the attention of the Bush White House Attorney General Gonzales hid her actions from Congress in exchange for her help in defeating an investigation into Bush's extremely illegal wiretapping scheme.
This should blow up big. After all, it's a bipartisan scandal with something for everyone.
Harman was recorded saying she would “waddle into” the AIPAC case “if you think it’ll make a difference,” according to two former senior national security officials familiar with the NSA transcript.
In exchange for Harman’s help, the sources said, the suspected Israeli agent pledged to help lobby Nancy Pelosi , D-Calif., then-House minority leader, to appoint Harman chair of the Intelligence Committee after the 2006 elections, which the Democrats were heavily favored to win.
