Conservatives were outraged. The chairman of the Republican National Committee denounced the report as an attempt to “segment out conservatives in this country who have a different philosophy or view from this administration” and label them as terrorists.
But with the murder of Dr. George Tiller by an anti-abortion fanatic, closely followed by a shooting by a white supremacist at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the analysis looks prescient.
There is, however, one important thing that the D.H.S. report didn’t say: Today, as in the early years of the Clinton administration but to an even greater extent, right-wing extremism is being systematically fed by the conservative media and political establishment.
The right wing news media (aka Fox and a handful of blogs) are trying to claim that Vonn Brunn was a lefty, which is ridiculous. The Free Republic (aka Freep) has gone through and purged all of Vonn Brunn's posts and now deny he ever was a member. The attempt to blame this on liberals is desperate and silly.
A white supremacist born in 1920. Brunn has been approvingly cited on Stormfront, a national white supremacist website. He is apparently the author of a tract called, "Kill the Best Gentiles," which his website describes as "a new, hard-hitting expose of the JEW CONSPIRACY to destroy the White gene-pool." Brunn, a WWII veteran, also wrote a screed on President Obama's citizenship that was re-posted to popular right-wing message board Free Republic:
. . .
Heidi Beirich of the SPLC told TPMmuckraker that on June 1 the site was transferred from Von Brunn's name into that of Steve Reimink, of West Olive, Michigan. Searches of online records by others confirm that the site was registered to Reimink at the time of the shooting yesterday.
. . .
A woman named Patti Thompson, who is listed as a coordinator for the Ron Paul campaign in Michigan, shares the phone number that's given for Reimink in the domain records for the site -- and who appears to be his girlfriend.
