An Interview With American Elf Author James Kochalka

03-01.jpg The Comics Journal - An Interview With American Elf Author James Kochalka
For the past 10 years, he has brought his life and his art together in stories and a personal diary strip published by Highwater Books, Alternative Comics, Top Shelf Productions, and online at his website, americanelf.com. Each strip can be taken on its own merits, as silly, profound, confessional, dumb, or unimportant, but the real beauty is in the body of work, especially that first big collection from Top Shelf, where his whole life can be pieced together from a moment here, a moment there.... You freely document tantrums, illness, mood swings and cat puke on the carpet. Is there a limit to your honesty? Do you sometimes regret what you reveal? There have been moments in my life that the diary strip has made more difficult. For instance, between the birth of Eli and the birth of Oliver, my wife had a pregnancy that ended in miscarriage. It's not fun to mourn in public. But still, there was a part of me that was excited to make art from the experience. My life has still not yet really experienced any great tragedy, this was a minor one. But I know that every life will experience some tragedy, and when mine does, I want to be ready to fully experience it and write about it. I'm not going to let my embarrassment get in the way of my art.

All bloggers have left Newsarama's Blog@

It was one of the main places to get up-to-date comics news and discussion. tl;dr: New corporate overlords promised to make bad things better and didn't, so the bloggers all quit. They'll pop up elsewhere. via Warren Ellis' Bad Signal mailing list| THE BEAT | Blog Archive| Ch-changes at Blog@
We heard some rumblings in the vicinity of Blog@ Newsarama of late, and now it’s all busted loose, as the original lineup of bloggers, including JK Parkin, Kevin Melrose, Tim O’Shea, Carla Hoffman, Melissa Krause, Jeff Trexler, Matt Maxwell, and Jennifer de Guzman, are leaving at the end of the month.
The Imaginova bought Newsarama. Things didn’t change right away, at least not much, but then came the relaunch of Newsarama. It was less than optimal (and that’s being kind), as anyone who has visited the sites and read the forums since last summer can see for themselves. Behind the scenes, things weren’t any better. For example, going back to the day of the relaunch, we were never asked about or even told about Imaginova redesigning the blog. I found out it was happening because I was in the middle of doing a post and received a 404 error when I tried to publish it. I run the damn blog, and they didn’t have the courtesy to give me a head’s up about what they were doing. That was the start of the summer from hell.

Morrison: I killed Bruce Wayne

Batman to be killed off after 70 years - Telegraph
Batman RIP' will see "the end of Bruce Wayne as Batman", according to Grant Morrison. There are rumours that Batman will suffer a gruesome end when his sidekick Robin goes over to "the dark side" and destroys him in a terrible betrayal. ... Others speculate that Wayne may either retire from his duties or be killed by a mystery villain known as the Black Glove. His fate will be revealed in the latest issue of DC Comic's Batman, published on 26 November. ... Mr Morrison declined to reveal who the new Batman would be, but the frontrunners include Tim Drake who has been Robin since 1991 and Dick Grayson - the original Boy Wonder.
