David Tennant stepping down as Dr. Who

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | David Tennant quits as Doctor Who

David Tennant is to stand down as Doctor Who, after becoming one of the most popular Time Lords in the history of the BBC science fiction show.

Tennant stepped into the Tardis in 2005, and will leave the role after four special episodes are broadcast next year.

He made the announcement after winning the outstanding drama performance prize at the National Television Awards.

"When Doctor Who returns in 2010 it won't be with me," he said.

Top infomercial pitchmen: Obama failed

NY Post | TV'S TOP AD STARS PAN BAM
Two leading infomercial stars agree: Barack Obama's half-hour self-promotion last night was a flop. "I don't see enough smiling. Doom and gloom totally," said Anthony Sullivan, one of the biggest names in infomercial history. "I feel depressed right now," added Sullivan, an Englishman famous for his infomercials touting the Swivel Sweeper and Smart Chopper. The only thing saving Obama, Sullivan said, was when the candidate appeared live at the end speaking at a rally in Florida. "I think it needed it. I was about to throw myself through a window because it was depressing," Sullivan said. He and AJ Khubani, who has produced infomercials for 25 years, said Obama also fell short of offering solutions to the dire problems he laid out. "I didn't see a payoff. Classic infomercial is you show the before and you show the after. I didn't see the music or the crashing waves of the Pacific," Sullivan said. He joked the producer "needs a spanking" for lacking optimism.

I want my Barack TV

Christian Science Monitor Blogs | Hey - it’s 30 minutes nonstop of Barack Obama tonight!
Tonight’s the night Barack Obama goes the way of Richard Simmons, Matthew Lesko, and Miss Cleo. He’s doing an infomercial. Actually, he won’t be everywhere. It may seem like it. He’s bought up the 8 - 8:30 p.m. time slot on CBS, NBC, FOX, and the Spanish speaking network Univision.... What will Obama be talking about tonight anyway? ABC’s George Stephanopolous spoke to some people who know some people who know other people who say Obama will lead off the show and conclude the program discussing his agenda. What’s in between? “However the rest of the time you might see other people, like a Warren Buffett or a Colin Powell, and other people the Obama campaign calls ‘validators’ to give testimony on why Americans should vote for Obama,” writes Stephanopolous.

Ron Howard humiliates self, slams your nostalgia button for Obama

Don't let this sacrifice be in vain, people!
See more Ron Howard videos at Funny or Die
Latest Obama advocates: Opie, Andy Griffith, Fonz
The video is the latest clip from FunnyOrDie.com, which has made news this election season by putting Hollywood celebrities in funny political videos. The site, which was co-founded by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, has produced popular videos featuring Paris Hilton in a mock campaign ad and Gina Gershon as Sarah Palin. Because the videos are produced quickly — McKay and company can dispatch a small crew in just hours — the site can create timely videos related to the news. The video came together when Howard called Judd Apatow, the director and producer who is a partner with FunnyOrDie. Apatow referred him to McKay, who wrote a draft of the script with Howard's input. Jake Szymanski, who directed the Hilton video, shot it.

"Out Of This World" intro

Out of this World TV Series Intro

I can't even describe how much I loved this show when I was in grade school. I think Evie, the half-alien time-stopping cross-dressing self-cloning tampering-with-the-space-time-continuum star of the show was my first tv crush.

Warren Ellis reviews the quite excellent "Leverage"

Warren Ellis -- LEVERAGE 1.01

I've watched the pilot episode of Leverage that Ellis reviews here, and it is good. Very good. It's a smart heist & caper show with a team of antisocial misfits that are unique non-stock characters. I'm damn excited for when this airs.

LEVERAGE is a Caper Show. The first episode introduces us to The Best Insurance Investigator Ever, who’s now on the skids after the insurance company wouldn’t pay for his dying kid’s treatment. The excellent Saul Rubinek (in, I have to say, a slightly underwritten role) plays an aircraft designer who wants The Best Insurance Investigator Ever to oversee a gang of criminals engaged to steal back his designs from a ruthless competitor. He’s got the thieves, he says: all he needs now is one honest man. And the designer uses the memory of his dead son to emotionally blackmail the last honest man into the gig.
