HBO ordering pilot for "A Game of Thrones"

Not A Blog - Huge, Huge News

George RR Martin's "Song of Ice & Fire" is to fantasy novels what The Wire is to cop dramas on TV. I am terribly excited about this.

They will be filming the pilot episode of A GAME OF THRONES.

It's just the pilot so far. They'll need to see that before they decide whether to proceed with a full season's episodes. So let's all hope the pilot will kick serious ass.

It should. David Benioff and Dan Weiss did a terrific job with the script. And yes, all of you can relax, it's very faithful. Dan and David will be the executive producers for the pilot and (we hope) the eventual series.

More details when I have 'em. The news is very fresh. HBO just issued their own press release, which should be up on their website soon, if it's not there already.

Winter is coming to HBO. Hot damn.

Snyder: "Lose the squid!" Millions of nerds die of rage.

watchzsquid.jpgHe changed the ending. Fail. WatchmenComicMovie.com | The “Squid” is Out | Zack Snyder confirms that the creature at the end of the original comic series will not be in his movie adaptation
I know — that sucks. We’ve all been hearing conflicting reports over the past several months on whether the “squid” — what fans call the monster at the end of Watchmen — would make it into the film, but now it seems that it definitely will not be making an appearance. How do we know? Well, Watchmen movie director Zack Snyder said so in a recent interview with Dark Horizons.
The squid was not in the movie when I got the script, the squid was never in any draft that I saw. My point is only that there was this elegant solution to the squid problem that I kind of embraced. I'm a fan of the thing as much as anyone, I was saying what are we going to do about this before I even read the script.
The details on what he has specifically changed in the film in regards to the ending are not known at this time, but it seems like he’s going with the “Dr. Manhattan energy beam” disaster that appeared in both the David Hayter and Alex Tse drafts of the script. When asked about details of the film’s climactic disaster, Snyder explained…
I won't say exactly but... Dr. Manhattan has a certain energy signature, it's clearly his thing...so you know.
Further commentary paints Snyder as, well, a condescending snot. Should you go see it? 1226363928760.jpg

He was pretty great in the Moffat-written two part episode this season. He played the virtual Dr. Moon and kept the planetary library safe and sane.

Hologram hate - C|Net to CNN: Die in a fire

C|Net | Stop the insanity: CNN's 'hologram' was horrendous
According to CNN, it was real "hologram" technology that beamed Jessica Yellin, a CNN correspondent from Chicago, to the CNN press center in New York, where Wolf Blitzer could grill her about what was going on in Chicago. First off, let me say that it wasn't even real "hologram" technology, which annoys me from the start. Don't say it's a "hologram" technology unless it really is. If CNN was truly using a "hologram," it would not have employed a green screen and overlay images. Instead, it would have captured scattered light and then reconstructed it back in the studio. Oh, and it probably would have bankrupted CNN too. But I digress. Everywhere I turn, someone is saying how "cool" CNN's so-called "hologram" was. Uh, no.

Kevin Smith broke a toilet, go see his film

LAT | Kevin Smith directs 'Zack and Miri Make a Porno' (and his weight)
Adding insult to injury, Smith's girth contributed to an embarrassing incident last week. "I broke a toilet. That's how heavy I am," said Smith. "I can't take all the credit -- that was an old toilet and a very waterlogged wall -- but my size took that toilet down. I cannot cognitively reframe it and be like, 'It wasn't me -- it was the toilet.' It was definitely me. And that's a wake-up call!"
