This is one of the best Thanksgiving movies. For reals. Katie Holmes plays a troubled young woman who is finally getting her life back together. She has a shitty apartment in the city and has invited her estranged family to come share Thanksgiving with her. Of course nothing goes to plan. In sloppier hands this would come off as slapstick, as a "Meet the Parents" clone. But it's better than that. The weight is carried by Patricia Clarkson as the mother and Oliver Platt as the father. The supporting cast does a solid job all around, bu Clarkson just effing brings it in this role. This is a feel-good movie in the end, but you need to crawl over some broken glass to get to there.
