Another Massive Heist in EVE online
The Second Life Herald » Grand Theft Dreadnought: EVE Online Crimeplay Rolls On

EVE online is an MMORPG about making your fortune as the pilot of various starcraft in space, trading and hijacking and doing who knows what.
The biggest heist/con/scam in the history of MMORPGs happened in this game about a year ago, I blogged about it then because it was such a beautiful piece of scamsmanship with masterful use of fake addresses, mail drops, phone calls and crafty contracting.
This is the story of another legendary swindle in the same game.
In short, here is what happened. A gang of spaces pirates placed a spy on board the biggest, baddest spacecraft in the game: think Death Star and you wouldn't be too far off.
The spy waited and waited until there came a time when he was the only player on board the craft and it was docked at a space station.
The pirates swooped in and used their primitive anti-collision force-fields to bump the Dreadnought out of the space station while a gang of their fighters created a diversion.
The spy was able to gain access to the bridge and sneak aboard a pirate-aligned pilot with the necessary skills to fly the stolen ship. And that was that. Pretty ballsy maneuver.
Stealing a dreadnought in EVE is a bit like stealing an aircraft carrier on Earth. Dreads are vast behemoths, requiring their own travel beacons and interstellar propulsion systems due to their being too big to be slingshotted from star to star by the jump gates that connect EVE solar systems.
