More on the Forged Documents
FactCheck.org Bush's "16 Words" on Iraq & Uranium: He May Have Been Wrong But He Wasn't Lying
In an attempt to better understand this Niger Document situation, I have reviewed the above article at the Annenberg Site factcheck.org. You should read it as well.
Basically, it argues that Bush's assertion that Iraq sought uranium from Africa was not solely based on the forged documents submitted by Italian Intelligence. The reporting in this article appears solid, and I accept the conclusion. But it does not change the fact that the documents were submitted as part of the evidence.
If Hadley, or anyone else in the White House, KNEW the documents were fake, there is still an argument to be made that they broke the law referenced below. More importantly, if it can be shown that they participated in the forgery, the law is certainly broken.
The law focuses on "intent."
