What can we do to prevent Hate Sites from spreading?

INTERNETHATE.jpgA Mind of Our Own | Hate Sites

Over the past few years, there has been a rise in cyber crimes on the internet. Some of the crimes are invading a persons privacy by hacking into their computer systems, spreading computer virus on the internet and of course the very common computer crime, computer fraud. But recently there is a new cyber crime trend which is 'Hate Sites' which basically means a website that promotes hatred....

According to Jeffery Long (Unruh 2007), the internet, which we use a tool of communication and knowledge has frequently being abuse and has become a vehicle of the worst human impulses, as reflected in the websites devoted to fomenting hatred and violence against a particular religion or ethnic groups. BBC news (2004) has also stated that net is being used by racist and extremist groups trying to recruit new members and spread their message. Hindu American Community had filed a report against Christian hate site which force its ministry at teaching Christians. This is ethically wrong because everyone has the right to choose their own beliefs

Hate Sites are morally and ethically wrong because the effects and message that they are sending to the people are not positive.

What can we do to prevent Hate Sites from spreading?

Computer are changing the way human makes decisions therefore we must decide when to trust computer and when not to trust them (Edgar 2003, pp. 1-8) because some of the information provided by the hate sites are not reliable.

Hate Bloggers, Death Threats and Apologies Abound

16.jpgCanada Free Press | Hate Bloggers, Death Threats and Apologies Abound

Last week, Concerned Women for America (CWA) broke the news about an apparent threat to the life of pro-family advocate Peter LaBarbera made by a commenter on lesbian activist Pam Spaulding's anti-Christian site Pam's House Blend.

Spaulding is an information technology manager with Duke University Press, and her employer appears quite proud of its blustering left-wing blogger. Duke Press has even publicly praised and promoted her blog activities, calling them a "mixture of snappy prose, funny postings and serious commentary."

So, just for fun, let's see if we can't yuck it up a bit with Duke University. Let's take a look at some of Spaulding's "snappy" and "funny" musings:

On her blog -- among other things -- Spaulding regularly mocks both Christ and Christians by sarcastically referring to Jesus as "jeebus." She refers to Christians as both the "Am Taliban" (for American Taliban) and "bible beaters." She's doctored photos of the pope, dressing him in drag and women's makeup, apparently implying that he's a cross-dressing closet homosexual. Spaulding has likened a well-respected black New Jersey pastor to cult leader and mass murderer Jim Jones, and she has managed to ridicule both Christmas and pro-lifers in one fell swoop with a post titled, "Oh Fetus tree, Oh Fetus tree."

Side splitting, isn't it?

Tim Hardaway's Gay Hate Speech Brings Swift Reaction

Poor Mojo Newswire: "I hate gay people!" cries washed-up basketball player

hardaway.jpg
Towelroad | Tim Hardaway's Gay Hate Speech Brings Swift Reaction

On Wednesday night, Former Miami Heat player Tim Hardaway's astonishing flippant response to comments he made regarding gay people following John Amaechi's coming out only served to further fuel the public outrage that was building. Said Hardaway: "There are more important things to worry about than my comments. We should be more concerned about President Bush and all the people dying in Iraq."

Huh?...

ollowing Hardaway's initial remarks on Wednesday ("I hate gay people. I let it be known, I don't like gay people. I don't like to be around gay people.") the NBA canceled an "NBA legend" appearance by the former point guard at the YMCA of Southern Nevada as well as his participation in events surrounding this weekend's All Star game in Las Vegas.

Hardaway has also been dumped as spokesman for Baldguyz, a company that makes grooming products for bald men, according to the Miami Herald.

Another Reason to Hate America

antiwar.com | Another Reason to Hate America

Good job, morons: In response to the US announcement that it will pay $5 million for the heads of two men, one a member of Hezbollah, the other a member of Islamic Jihad, the latter organization has threatened to strike US interests. The Hezbollah man was apparently involved in a 1985 plane hijacking in which one US soldier was killed. The IJ man “has furthered the activity of Palestinian Islamic Jihad through activities such as bombings, murder, extortions and money laundering.” There’s no indication as to what this has to do with the United States at all. Though if the neocon goal of making Israel’s enemies America’s enemies is considered, it begins to make sense. I really look forward to being blown up at a pizzeria.

Gawker to "LAT Man": We still hate you

douchebag.jpg_thumb.jpgThe Gawker | Dear 'LAT' Man, We Still Hate You. Love, Gawker

When we saw a link on Romenesko alerting us that "LAT's [Joel] Stein believes hate is Gawker's way of showing love," we admit, our interest was piqued--since the last time we checked, we still thought he was kind of a douchebag for that column about how he didn't want to hear from readers. Anyway, we followed Romenesko's link and came upon a transcript of a little chat Joel did last week on the LA Times website. Someone asked him, "why does gawker hate you?" We eagerly awaited his cutting analysis, or perhaps an epistolary on why, in fact, we find him to be douchey. Instead, we got this:
I just talked to the Gawker woman and she was really nice. I think hate is their way of showing love. I think Gawker was abused as a child. Perhaps sexually.

Why Republicans Should Hate Bush

angry_bush.jpgSadly, No! | Why Republicans Should Hate Bush

Dr. Atrios points us to this awesome poll:
[T]he state of the Bush administration is at its worst yet, according to the latest NEWSWEEK poll. The president’s approval ratings are at their lowest point in the poll’s history—30 percent—and more than half the country (58 percent) say they wish the Bush presidency were simply over, a sentiment that is almost unanimous among Democrats (86 percent), and is shared by a clear majority (59 percent) of independents and even one in five (21 percent) Republicans. Half (49 percent) of all registered voters would rather see a Democrat elected president in 2008, compared to just 28 percent who’d prefer the GOP to remain in the White House.

'Why does everyone hate me?'

shilpashetty460.jpgGuardian Unlimited | Germaine Greer | Thousands have complained about the racist bullying of Shilpa Shetty on Big Brother. But we should not be surprised - it simply reflects the widespread bigotry of British society

There are no good reasons for watching Celebrity Big Brother and very good reasons for not. Not watching will spare you the nerve-fraying annoyingness that is Shilpa Shetty. Everything about her is infuriating....What no one seems to have quite understood is that Shilpa is a very good actress. Everyone hates her because she wants them to. She also knows that if she infuriates people enough, their innate racism will spew forth.

As a Tamil, Shetty has certainly had to deal with discrimination at home in suburban Mumbai. Her only motive for parading in front of the other women in the house with whitener on her face was to show what utter hicks they are, how little they understand of her complex reality or of a billion people in the subcontinent who all want to have wheat-coloured skin. I bet thousands of brown-skinned girls in Southall fell off the sofa laughing when she did that.

I Still Hate Large Media Outlets

yellow.gifStanding Out In The Cold | I Still Hate Large Media Outlets

Yesterday I saw a very large number of headlines that all said something like "Bush Defies Commanders, Orders Increase in Army Numbers." I watched the press conference with President Bush yesterday, and while stumbling painfully along as always, he explicitly says (paraphrased) "I'm not going to tell you today what my plan for Iraq is. I haven't made a decision about increased troop levels, but its something I am still considering." To turn that into headlines proclaiming that he has firmly made up his mind -- and "defied" his top commanders -- is silly and misleading. And I hate them for it.

Love Music Hate Racism

Love Music Hate Racism | Essex branch of Love Music Hate Racism Hugely Successful Benefit in Maldon

Despite rain that Noah would be proud of and Pudsey Bear on TV, over 150 music fans, trade unionists and anti-racist campaigners came out to rock against racism organised with Malifiwho Promotions and Subways.

The British National Party have been spreading their vile racist propoganda in the Maldon recently but a week after rememberance day, young people in the town came together in unity to show that we would rather party together than listen to the neo Nazi BNP.

309828.jpgThe Drafts got the crowd warmed up with the lead singer wearing a rather fetching Fuck the BNP t-shirt.... The finale and set of the night was UK hip-hop supplied by Artcha, G-range, Mr. Sounds and Chrome. The indie / metal kids don’t get to see live MCs very often in Maldon - but when they they see top quality beatboxing n freestyling - they love it!

And its all for a good cause - as Dave Smith (an old duffer with no hair) said from the stage: “When I was young Joe Strummer was a hero of mine - not just because he was the lead singer with The Clash - but because he was prepared to stand up and be counted. He was one of the founder members of Rock against Racism and used music to bring people together to campaign against the nazi skinheads and National Front in the 1970s. Today we carry on that tradition with Love Music Hate Racism”

The folks over at 1up.com bring us this clever (if not a little overly chart laden) music video pitting the Wii against the PS3. But this time the Wii has more than a lot of rabid fanboys on it’s side, it’s got the Beatles, and they’re bigger than Jesus…so there!

Political Blogging as Hate Crime

Another Day in the Empire | Political Blogging as Hate Crime

If Rev. Ted Pike is correct, this blog may soon be illegal.

“For the past eight years, the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith has tried unsuccessfully to pass its Orwellian federal ‘anti-hate’ bill. It has failed largely for one reason: Republican control of Congress,” writes Pike. ... ADL’s federal thought crimes bill, ‘The Local Law Enforcement Enhancement Act,’ will be reintroduced soon after January 1. Since no Democrat in Congress has ever voted against the hate bill, it will pass.”

According to Rabbi David Saperstein of the Interfaith Alliance Foundation, Americans “cannot stand idly by while our brothers and sisters, parents and children, live in fear that racism, bigotry, homophobia, misogyny, and xenophobia continue to go unchecked....

According to Saperstein, hate crimes are not restricted to violence. Hate crimes “are more than murders, beatings, and assaults.... They seek to tear us apart from within, pitting American against American, fomenting violence and civil discord.”

If we buy into this line of reasoning, the First Amendment of the Constitution not only allows but encourages hatred and violence....

Democrats hate Mississippi

| Democrats hate Mississippi

A Mississippi congressman says Rep. Charles Rangel of New York owes the southern state an apology, and he asks if insults are what Mississippi should expect when Democrats take over leadership in Congress.
Rangel, a Democrat, was quoted in The New York Times on Thursday saying: "Mississippi gets more than their fair share back in federal money, but who the hell wants to live in Mississippi?"
